The Kakamega Community of Practice (KCOP) Network unites civil society organizations working collaboratively to promote effective county governance and participatory development in Kakamega County. Our network operates under a shared commitment to deliver impactful initiatives through advocacy and development.
Our Mission
To empower communities in Kakamega County through collaborative action, fostering inclusive governance, sustainable development, and social equity.
Our thematic areas
Governance and Accountability: We champion transparent, inclusive, and accountable leadership by advocating for sound governance practices and empowering citizens to actively participate in decision-making processes.
Health: We support initiatives that enhance access to quality healthcare services, promote public health awareness, and strengthen health systems to ensure the well-being of communities.
Education: KCOP prioritizes equitable and inclusive education by working with stakeholders to improve access, infrastructure, and quality education for all learners in Kakamega County.
Climate Change: We address the challenges posed by climate change by promoting sustainable environmental conservation practices, fostering resilience, and advocating for climate-smart solutions.
Agriculture: Our network supports sustainable agricultural practices to enhance food security, improve livelihoods, and promote resource-efficient farming techniques.
Gender Equality: We advance gender equity by advocating for the rights of women and marginalized groups, fostering empowerment programs, and ensuring equal opportunities for all.
Social Justice: Championing fairness, equity, and human rights to build a just and inclusive society.
What We’ve Achieved
Memorandum of understanding: We have developed a joint memorandum of understanding outlining rules and guidelines of the network, which all members have signed.
Empowering Civil Society Organizations (CSOs): We have empowered CSOs to attend and actively participate in public participation forums at both the sub-county and community levels.
Capacity Building and Training: 30 member organizations have been trained and their capacities built through Organizational Development and System Strengthening (ODSS).
Advocacy Memo submission: We have successfully submitted memoranda on various advocacy issues, ensuring that community concerns and recommendations are formally presented to and considered by the county government.
Public Participation Policy Development: We have played a crucial role in the development of the Kakamega Public Participation Policy, which is currently in process. This policy aims to institutionalize and streamline public participation mechanisms within the county.
Enhanced Collaboration with County Government: We have created stronger collaborations with county government officials, facilitating more open and productive dialogues on key advocacy issues and policies.
